Magazine analysis

1.

This is the cover of the magazine Billboard. This magazine has a simple colour scheme of white, green and pink. The masthead is behind the artists head which shows it is well known enough that people can tell what magazine it is even without being able to see the whole name. The font is bold so it stands out and draws the eye to the title. The text on the rest of the cover is various sizes, the biggest being the artists name to show this is a main selling point of the magazine. The other text is varying sizes the larger text being more important or interesting news. This smaller text also draws people to the magazine as they will be interested in the article about the artist on the cover and will read the text to see what the article is about and to see what other articles are in the magazine.

This is a contents page from the magazine Billboard. The colour scheme is again simple using blue, black, white and grey. Most of the text is a similar size however the title of the page and the heading above the contents is larger to direct the attention to those areas. The large picture to the side draws attention and the smaller pictures pick out specific articles the audience will be interested in.

This is a double page spread from the magazine Billboard. The colour scheme follows the general style of the magazine as it is simple and only uses a few colours (purple, grey and white). The title of the article is very bold so it stands out. It is also different thicknesses which also makes it interesting. The picture on this is spread takes up half the page which also grabs peoples attention as they will notice the artist and be interested in the article.

This is a cover of the magazine Q. This magazine also has a simple colour scheme of black, white and red. The name of the magazine also uses this colour scheme which helps it stand out. The font the name uses is very simple and easy to read and the size is much larger than other mastheads would be as it is one letter it is taking up less space. Unlike the first example the masthead is in front of the artists face. This is because it is small and only a bit of it is covering the face. As in the first example the other text on the cover is smaller than the masthead. The largest text is the most important article about the artist and the other articles are written in smaller text. The layout follows the H design.

This is a contents page from the magazine Q. Like Billboard it uses a large picture to show the main article of the magazine. The colour scheme follows the scheme on the cover as it uses red white and black. The text is all similar but like other contents pages the title and sub headings are written in slightly bigger text.

This is a double page spread from the magazine Q. This uses red and white as its main colours. The main quote of the article is in a bigger text to grab the audiences attention and the main word of the quote is in red to contrast the rest of the text. One half of the page is dedicated to a large picture of a popular artist to attract audience.

This is a cover of the magazine Top of the pops. The colour scheme uses purple and pink. This cover also follows the F design. The masthead has the largest text so it stands out. The other text on the page is smaller with the main article written in bigger text to get peoples attention. The smaller text on the page is mainly the same size and font and is written in purple and pink to match the colour scheme.

This is a contents page from the magazine Top Of The Pops. This page uses a bright colour scheme similar to that of the cover as it uses pink, purple and yellow as its main colours. This magazine is aimed at younger audiences so the colours are bright and bold and catch your attention. There are large numbers to show which page the articles on the cover are on instead or writing. The other articles on this page are split into different sections so you can easily find articles or look for articles you may find interesting.

This is a double page spread of the magazine top of the pops. This follows the style of the other pages I analysed as it has the pink and purple colour scheme however this article also uses gold as a colour. The title is in the largest text so you can get an idea of what it is about. The article itself is quite small so it can be longer as it is only in the bottom half of the page. There is a large picture on this page and like the large title helps people see what the article is about. The page also has a smaller picture in the bottom left corner and a quote in the top right corner so it is not just a long boring article.
